What does art know?
Does an artist suffer
like a poet?
Feel, experience, see
and believe
like a poet?
The artist creates and image,
often exalted
when assumed
to embody
some deeper truth
message,
symbolism.
Many assume that
if they don’t get it
it must be good.
Most artists I’ve known
simply create
because it looks nice,
with little
or nothing
to say.

I’m sitting
in a restaurant;
hip little place
with art
on the walls.
I’m staring at a large black square
canvas, containing only
one large green apple painted
squarly in the center, occupying
nearly half the
available space.

Looking upon and
carefully
considering
this somewhat attractive piece of
art,
I am left feeling
a bit
empty.

The apple is green.
The canvas is black.
The people are eating
and drinking.
No one cares,
and I barely
care, and
the artist
barely cared.

So what.
So fucking what.
